Satellite TV is without doubt one of the most successful and important technological advances of recent years. There are now just so many more channels available with tons of channels dedicated to a particular type of entertainment – sports; music; news; cartoons; kids; movies; documentaries; history . . . you name it you can watch it, anytime of the night or day. Satellite TV, from its humble beginnings as a specialized technology for only the most dedicated of enthusiasts is now commonplace in just about every household in the country.

Satellite TV has become particularly popular with those people who live in remote areas of the country, giving them a wide choice of channels. It’s also popular with people who live in towns and cities as a viable alternative to cable TV. All you need is a clear view of the southern sky (at the right angle) so that you can place your dish onto the roof or side of your house and access as many of the available channels as you want to.

Satellite dishes used to be big and bulky affairs which did limit their use somewhat. They had to be placed in the garden or yard and really did take up lots of space, but these days an 18″ dish is all that you need, lightweight and easy to attach to your property without the need of planning permission or the danger of contracting a hernia during the installation process.

Satellite TV dishes, however, are not the only way to receive satellite TV. If you live in an area where you don’t have a clear view of the sky (in the right direction) either because of some high rise building, you living on the wrong side of the block or a mountain is in the way, then you can have access to the satellite TV channels to your computer, just so long as you have a broadband internet connection (and let’s face it, most of us have that these days don’t we). You will need a suitable computer, the modern ones are up to the job but even if yours is a little outdated it’s pretty inexpensive to either increase the capacity or replace with a second hand one which will be more than capable of dealing with it.

Satellite TV on Your Computer

You don’t even have to crowd around your desktop or laptop either, a simple TV-out card will enable you to attach your computer to your regular television set and watch all of your favorite satellite TV programs on there. As long as your computer has ample processing speed then the job is easily sorted.
